Approaching Tunnel 5-1/2 under Metz Road, the UP 1996 north pulling the Coastline Jacobi Officers Special cruises by the cropless Salinas Valley fields at trackspeed.

The terrain in the southern Salinas Valley is dry and brown in August, as northbound Coast Starlight 14 approaches the Soledad Tunnel, running close to on-time.

Coast Starlight #14 is about to enter the short Soledad Tunnel on the Coast Line just north of King City.
